| Cox Commitment to Diversity
Cox’s commitment to diversity extends beyond the workplace into our communities, which are rich in diversity and provide the best pools of candidates to power our local workforces.
That’s why Cox provides cash and in-kind donations to dozens of organizations dedicated to promoting diversity and advocating for the needs of minorities within the community, including the National Urban League and its Black Executive Exchange Program (BEEP); the National Council of La Raza; the Human Rights Campaign; the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP); and the National Association of Asian American Professionals (NAAAP).
Our businesses support a variety of community groups to promote diversity:
- Since being a founding member in 1994, Cox has participated in the UNITY Conference for minority journalists, comprised of the National Association of Black Journalists (which Cox helped form in 1975), the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, the Asian American Journalists Association and the Native American Journalists Association. To date, we have provided $200,000 in scholarships to aspiring minority journalists through UNITY and to the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association (NLGJA).
- In 2008, Cox Enterprises established a national partnership with the Human Rights Campaign to help promote equality and inclusion of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered people in our workplace and community.
- Through a partnership with the National Council of La Raza, Cox provides both cash and in-kind donations.
- Cox Communications has wired 70% of the Boys & Girls Clubs in the communities they serve, providing under-served, inner-city students with broadband access to the Internet.
- Each year, Cox hosts interns in all of its businesses and provides them with the opportunity to learn about the company, the industries in which we operate and the perspectives of corporate business leaders.
One of the goals of the internship program is representative minority participation, and of the 2008 program’s 60 participants, one-third were minorities, and nearly half were female.
