Can you share a brief snapshot of your career and education prior to joining Cox?
I joined Cox Communications earlier this year with more than 25 years of experience in human resources and operations, many of which were with a number of well-known companies such as Target, Home Depot, General Motors and Kraft Foods.
What excites you the most about working for Cox Communications and supporting the New England-Cleveland system?
I am very excited to learn all about this industry and the employees here have been very helpful in filling my brain with information and acronyms. Seriously though, the people that make up our system are great and definitely want to do their part to make the company successful. That's something you don't often experience in all organizations. So for me to be able to support a client group of this caliber is awesome!
Is there a person or persons who you admire and have been influential in your life and career?
It may sound cliché; however, it's my parents. I was raised to believe I could do whatever I set my mind to, and not to allow anyone to puts limits on me. In addition, they taught me to be grounded; treat people with respect; and always keep learning something new.
When you are not at work, how do you like to spend your free time?
My husband and I have a cabin in Maine, which we bought about seven years ago. It is located in a little town called "Lubec," which is the eastern most point in the USA. That is our getaway place to go hiking and enjoy the local flavors (including handmade chocolates and lobster). It is nice and relaxing. An added bonus is that the cell phone coverage is extremely spotty, so there are minimal interruptions. If I am not in Maine, I enjoy rummaging through consignment stores and antiques shops for DYI (do it yourself) projects to add to my décor.
What is one of the things you would put on your "bucket" list?
The one thing on my husband's and my bucket list is to live in New Zealand or Chile when we retire. We visited New Zealand and just fell in love with the people, country, atmosphere and views. We still want to take a trip to Chile and check it out before making our final decision; however, Chile will have a lot to live up to in order beat New Zealand.
If you could trade lives with anyone for a day who would it be and why?
I enjoy who I am. If I must pick someone I'd probably trade places with Author Steven King. This way I could better understand how he develops all those stories in such detail. I have lots of stories in my own head; however, what he creates fascinates me.
What is the best piece of advice you would give to a potential employee looking to join the Cox family?
Two words: "Patience and Perseverance." Cox is a great company to work for and we take pride in making sure we get the best individuals to come and join in on the fun. This means our process is more intense and may take a bit longer than that of other organizations.
