About Ryan Hickman

San Juan Capistrano, California

Ryan spends approximately 10-15 hours a week cleaning the local beaches and recycling. Ryan started recycling when he was just three years old and has since recycled 1.7 million bottles and cans (over 85 tons). Ryan leads and organizes weekly beach clean-up events in his community and travels internationally speaking about recycling and saving our planet from plastic pollution. Ryan started a recycling program at his elementary school and volunteers his time recording educational videos to inspire other schools across the world to make the world a cleaner place.

Ryan is a proud recipient of the CNN Young Wonder award. He's been named one of the top 100 Most Influential People of Orange County, Calif. and one of the top ten kids changing the world by MSN.

Ryan's been listed as one of Reader’s Digest’s Top Kids of the Decade Changing the World list, featured in TIME for KIDS and National Geographic magazines, and was also a top finalist for TIME magazine’s 2020 Kid of the Year. He’s also been a guest on The Ellen Show, NBC Nightly News and The Today Show.

Ryan founded the non-profit Project3R and selected it as the Cox Conserves Heroes grant recipient.
