Cox is constantly searching for new sustainable technologies and programs to help create environmental solutions. This has resulted in projects that take a different approach to how we consume and manage our natural resources, and make a positive impact on our communities and the world.

We’ll never stop exploring how to lessen our impact on the environment. We’ve set big goals and are working to achieve them. Our plan is to be carbon neutral by 2044. Through the use of alternative energyenergy conservation strategies and smart fleet operations, Cox Enterprises is making a difference.

New River Energy Facility

New River Energy Facility

In a partnership with the Raleigh County Solid Waste Authority, Cox built the New River Energy Facility in Beckley, W. Va. to transform byproducts from the waste sector into clean energy for the community. The facility captures landfill gas and uses it to generate energy, while at the same time reducing the amount of methane gas that enters the atmosphere. 

Water Conservation

Conserving water engages multiple Cox core values. Healthy waterways help improve health and well-being in our communities. Conservation lessens our impact on the environment and returns high-quality, reusable water to the communities we serve. Using a variety of technologies, Cox has conserved 57 million gallons of water in the past 10 years.

Strategies include rainwater harvesting, a process that collects, stores and reuses water. At our company’s water conservation centers, we process water to improve its quality to better than its original state. Other programs include motion-sensor water fixtures and xeriscaping – landscaping that uses little or no irrigation.

Golden Isles Conservation Center

Golden Isles Conservation Center

Located in Nahunta, Ga., the Golden Isles Conservation Center applies an Italian-developed technology that uses organic materials to generate heat to break down discarded tires into their original components: synthesis oil, carbon black, steel and synthesis gas. This removes waste from landfills and waterways and allows the byproducts to be repurposed.
