Creating a Connected Greenspace
When Cox Communications and the James M. Cox Foundation come together to support a new park in a community where Cox does business, the result is a more beautiful and more connected public space.
The James M. Cox Foundation, which provides community support in several areas including conservation and environment, donated $250,000 in 2016 to help fund the building of Tulsa’s Gathering Place. Once complete, the riverfront park will encompass 100 acres and boast 120 feet of suspension bridges.
And recently, Cox Communications and Tulsa’s Gathering Place announced a 10-year commitment to provide funding, promotional marketing services and technology for the city’s soon-to-open riverfront landmark.
An $850,000 donation and a new telecommunications agreement will bring cutting-edge technology to the park’s operations, support the greenspace and enhance the overall visitor experience.
“Gathering Place is going to enhance both the aesthetic and cultural landscape of our community in a very significant way, and Cox is very pleased to be a part of it,” said Roger Ramseyer, vice president and Tulsa market leader for Cox Communications.
Cox Communications will provide technology services for the park’s operations, including data circuits for the park’s operations, video feeds for television monitors, telephone services, fiber optic cables between park buildings and guest WiFi inside the ONEOK Lodge and Williams Boathouse.
As part of the partnership agreement, Cox Communications will distribute advertising for the park and its events on cable channels and digital media over the next two years. Gathering Place will leverage digital marketing initiatives in other Cox markets, too, with a goal of attracting visitors to Tulsa.
“This partnership will help bring technical capabilities to park operations that will help us host the more than one million guests we expect each year,” said Tony Moore, executive director of Gathering Place. “We have been working with Cox since the Gathering Place was just a rendering, and now it’s real. Cox’s investment and ongoing partnership will help ensure our park operations are managed well.”
