StartUPs: The Next Generation

05/15/2018

Getting a new tech business off the ground is tough. Doing it as a minority in a world where minorities are historically under-funded is even tougher.

But Cox Enterprises is helping to close the funding gap by partnering with the StartUP Runway Foundation to launch the next generation of women and minority entrepreneurs. Cox is the first-ever presenting sponsor for this year’s StartUP Runway Foundation season.

The foundation awards a $10,000 grant at each of two showcases on May 2 and Nov. 2. The grants go to women or minority-led startups selected by the foundation’s program and chosen by local investors. ReciproCare, founded by Rachel Fuller, was the first grant recipient of 2018. The company is an online marketplace that helps senior care providers find caregivers, and helps caregivers find jobs.

“Women and minority entrepreneurs strongly contribute to Atlanta’s economic growth, and Startup Runway is authentically committed to their success,” said David Blau, Cox Enterprises vice president of corporate strategy and investments. “We are proud to support the work StartUP Runway is doing in our community to inspire innovation and entrepreneurial spirit.”

In addition to awarding the grants, StartUP Runway connects the startup owners with an active pool of over 100 mentors. You can find out more about the foundation at https://startuprunway.co/.
