Corporate Social Responsibility Report

FROM THE INSIDE OUT

Through our employees and the decisions we make as a company, we know that change starts at home. Every two years we release a report that outlines Cox’s progress toward our environmental and social impact goals as they relate to the environment, giving and people. This year’s report is titled “From the Inside Out,” and demonstrates our commitment to building a better future for the next generation.

“Although the term corporate social responsibility didn’t exist when my grandfather founded the company in 1898, many of the principles he embraced can be found at the center of our corporate social responsibility agenda today.”

“He believed we had a responsibility to our communities and our employees and their families. The work we’re doing to improve our environmental and social performance is really a continuation of his legacy, which is one that we cherish.”

Alex Taylor, President and CEO, Cox Enterprises

“We’ve changed and diversified, so much over the years, but at our core we are still trying to make a positive impact on the world. Our Purpose is to Empower People Today to Build a Better Future for the Next Generation. Our corporate social responsibility initiatives and goals are a conduit for our employees to engage in that Purpose.”

COX CONSERVES

COX CONSERVES

In 2018, we made progress toward goals to send Zero Waste to Landfill by 2024 and become Water and Carbon Neutral by 2044 by offsetting over 9,000 tons of carbon, saving 22.5 million gallons of water and reducing waste to landfill by almost 40,000 tons. We also invested in sustainable agriculture through BrightFarms, an innovative startup that produces locally grown, packaged salads.

COX GIVING

Together with philanthropic support from the James M. Cox Foundation, Cox companies collectively gave more than $123 million to their communities through cash, in-kind and public service announcement donations.

In addition to donating thousands of community volunteer hours, employees have also helped each other through the Cox Employee Relief Fund (CERF), which has provided $9 million in assistance to Cox employees and their families since 2005.

COX PEOPLE

COX PEOPLE

Cox’s Purpose echoes from the inside out, with the belief that the company's employees are its most important resource. In 2018, Cox challenged itself to rethink how to reward and develop current employees and how to attract a best-in-class workforce of the future.

Through a comprehensive, multi-year initiative called EXLab, Cox is reimagining the employee experience across all divisions, while building on existing programs that benefit employees’ health and wellness, financial future and workforce diversity.

We know that actions speak louder than words.
