Cox began as a media company when founder James M. Cox purchased the Dayton Evening News (later the Dayton Daily News) in 1898. While Cox sold the majority of its Cox Media Group in 2019, the Cox family continues to believe the media plays a critical role in delivering accurate information and accountability necessary to maintain a well-functioning democracy.

A commitment to digital media

Our acquisition of Axios builds on our company’s legacy in local media and underscores our company’s commitment to growing and nurturing credible, fact-based journalism. Cox remains dedicated to investing in the future of our media companies — The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Dayton Daily News and other Ohio news outlets — as they continue to provide their communities with timely, accurate information and news.

Axios

Axios is a news and technology company that covers topics and trends with an audience-first approach, delivering content through newsletters, a news stream, a mobile app and podcasts. Axios launched in 2017 based on the belief that the world needs smarter, more efficient coverage of topics shaping our fast-paced and changing world. Cox Enterprises acquired Axios in 2022.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

The mission of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution (AJC) is to be the most essential and engaging source of news for the people of Atlanta, of Georgia and of the South.

From politics to sports, culture to cooking, what happens in our backyard is more important than ever. For over 150 years, the journalists at the AJC have highlighted the substance and soul of Greater Atlanta — digging deep not just to tell the stories that make headlines, but to tell the whole story behind them.
