Cox Launches Second Esports Team
05/07/2019
Cox is bringing a second esports team to Atlanta, partnering with Province Inc. to launch a team for the new Call of Duty League.
Atlanta’s team was one of a few announced on May 2. Dallas, New York, Paris and Toronto were other cities that will be founding franchises in the new league. This investment was made by Atlanta Esports Ventures, a partnership between Cox Enterprises and Province Inc. Like our Overwatch league investment, which spawned the Atlanta Reign, this helps position Cox as a leader in this new media landscape. With its broad appeal to younger audiences, it also helps Cox attract and retain a new demographic of talented employees.
“The partnership between Province, Inc. and Cox Enterprises has been remarkable,” said Paul Hamilton, president and CEO of Atlanta Esports Ventures. “We have the opportunity to — once again — play a pivotal role in Atlanta’s diverse esports community by bringing the future of Call of Duty esports to the city. Activision has a proven track record for mastering this city-based team model, making them the ideal partner for this endeavor.”
The Call of Duty League is the official esports league developed around the Call of Duty video game franchise from publisher Activision Blizzard. Through Atlanta Esports Ventures, Cox is also the owner and operator of Overwatch League’s Atlanta Reign team, a professional esports league for the video game Overwatch.
