Honoring MLK

04/04/2018

On April 4, 1968, a shot rang out that changed the world. 50 years later, Channel 2 Action News, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (AJC), WSB Radio and KISS 104.1 have teamed up to produce special coverage to commemorate the untimely death of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

The Cox Media Group properties in Atlanta have reached back into their collective archives to find rare video, audio and news interviews that celebrate his life and legacy. Their teamwork on the project is a great example of CMG’s new approach to integration — taking advantage of our local scale and using our cross-promotional power to own the coverage in the Atlanta market, said CMG Executive Vice President Jane Williams.

The AJC is publishing a special section of historic front pages, photos and commentary. WSB Radio and KISS 104.1 will share commentary from legendary voices, speaking to the struggle of time. Channel 2 Action News will bring viewers live reports on April 4 from Memphis, Washington, D.C., and Atlanta, where thousands are expected to honor the life and legacy of Dr. King.

As part of that campaign, the newsrooms also have joined to provide:

  • A rich new in-depth digital experience at HonoringMLK.com.
  • A new dedicated Twitter account, @HonoringMLK.
  • And they are encouraging people to use the hashtag #HonoringMLK for all MLK 50 tweets.
