Recognizing Our Best: Carol Larner
11/02/2018
In her role with CEI as vice president of investments, Carol Larner oversees the company’s 401(k) investments and pension fund assets. Her decisions, guided by expertise and hands-on experience, directly impact employees and their futures.
Larner is responsible for ensuring that the billions of dollars Cox has contributed is carefully invested so that our company and our people see a solid return on those investments.
Larner is emblematic of one of Cox's core values, to honor our commitments. Thanks to her guidance, the Cox pension’s assets have significantly grown over the past few years. And unlike other endowments of similar size that rely on dozens of staff, Larner's team numbers only three members.
Employees like Larner are why Alex Taylor, president and CEO of Cox Enterprises, created the Gov. James M. Cox Award. Named after his great-grandfather who founded the company 120 years ago, the award recognizes those who exemplify our company’s Purpose: Empower People Today to Build a Better Future for the Next Generation.
Larner was one of the first recipients of the award.
"She never asked for a pat on the back," said Taylor. "She never asks for publicity or recognition, but I wanted to give it to her because when we make a promise that your retirement savings will be there, we try very hard to make sure that we can live up to that to that commitment and she is somebody that is living up to that commitment and has done so really, really well for a very long time."
In addition to her work growing our investment funds, Larner actively assists our community and the needs of employees. She served for as decade as the inaugural treasurer of the Cox Employee Relief Fund (CERF), which helps Cox employees impacted by natural disasters, catastrophic injury or illness, or loss of a family member.
Thank you, Carol Larner, for your dedication to Cox.
