The James M. Cox Foundation Announces $500,000 Grant for Cleveland Clinic Florida's Capital Campaign
Grant to help develop advanced cancer care center
ATLANTA, July 8, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The James M. Cox Foundation announced a $500,000 grant to help support the Cleveland Clinic Florida's Capital Campaign, which will create a technologically-advanced cancer center to provide holistic supportive care.
"Cox Enterprises has a strong presence in Florida through its automotive, media and broadband communications divisions," said Cox Automotive President Sandy Schwartz. "We've always stayed true to supporting our employees and the communities where we operate. We're proud that this grant is helping Cleveland Clinic Florida make advanced healthcare services available to our employees and customers in Florida."
As part of the campaign, Cleveland Clinic Florida is constructing a 144,000-square-foot facility in Weston, Fla. that will include a cancer center and expand the Pauline Braathen Neurological Center. The new facility will treat patients with complex cancer and neurological conditions and address complicated brain cancers. Advanced video conferencing technology will connect the physicians with their colleagues around the world as cancer care becomes increasingly global.
"We are so grateful to the James M. Cox Foundation for this generous gift toward Cleveland Clinic Florida's new Cancer Center in Weston," says Cancer Center Director Dr. Steven Roshon. "Our goals are clear: put the patient first; treat the entire patient; offer the best in multidisciplinary and specialty care; advance care through research; and improve access to world-class care. The Cox Foundation gift will directly and positively affect the services we provide for the South Florida community and beyond."
Cleveland Clinic Florida's Capital Campaign is being co-chaired by AutoNation President and COO Mike Maroone and his father Albert Maroone.
"A number of my friends who have been afflicted by cancer have had to travel out of state to get the level of care required to fight for their lives," said Mike Maroone. "It's critical that we step up and do everything we can to offer this level of service here. This is South Florida's greatest medical need and who better to make this a reality than a world-renowned institution with a proven track record and great leadership. Thank you to the Cox Foundation for this generous grant."
