Inclusion is the Golden Thread

While inclusion and diversity have always been part of Cox’s fabric, we see inclusion as the golden thread that unleashes the potential of our employees, and so much more.

We thrive on what makes us different and encourage our people to champion inclusion and celebrate each other’s unique abilities and perspectives. We can only accomplish our Purpose if all our employees are included, heard, engaged and empowered to reach their full potential.

Inclusion is an essential part of our culture and business strategy. Our collective experiences, backgrounds, and skills are key drivers of innovation, continued business growth, and improved performance.

The Cox Culture

We’re dedicated to creating an inclusive culture that enables you to be your best self by providing resources to support you personally and professionally. That’s why we offer comprehensive benefits that include your physical, mental and financial health. When you live healthier and happier at home – and at work – we all win.

Our Work Isn’t Done

While inclusion and diversity have been a part of the fabric of Cox throughout our history, we see inclusion as the golden thread that unleashes the potential of our employees, businesses and so much more. We view building an open, inclusive workplace as a journey. That’s why we’re continuously nurturing an atmosphere where great people want to be and where every employee can bring their best self to work and feel valued, respected and empowered to build a better future. We know there’s plenty of road ahead. That said, we’re proud of the progress we’ve made and the recognition we’ve achieved along the way.

Inclusion Creates Opportunities

We champion inclusion, and we’re committed to fostering a culture where great people want to be and where every employee feels seen, valued, respected and empowered to build a better future. While we’re always working to get better, we embrace an inclusive culture of fairness and respect, value and belonging, empowerment and growth. No two employees look or think the same — and we prefer it that way! We provide our people opportunities to: Navigate their own careers, share their unique perspectives, develop professionally and grow personally,  mentor others and be mentored, connect through diversity councils and join employee resource groups (ERGs). Because actions speak louder than words, we’ve also set an enterprise goal to increase our executive people of color representation by 50% by the end of 2025. We expect this diverse representation growth will result from of our inclusive practices in recruitment, development and engagement.

Pushing for Progress in Our Society

We believe in human rights, justice and empowering our communities through investment, philanthropy, kindness, compassion and inclusion. But more than anything, we believe in taking action. Doing the right thing. Always. As injustices and disparities continue to have an impact on our communities, we established a $1 million fund to support social justice. In 2020, we disbursed funds to the Equal Justice Initiative, UNCF, National Urban League, National Center for Civil and Human Rights, and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Action. In 2021, we renewed our $1 million commitment to the same organizations and added Asian Americans Advancing Justice. In 2022, we renewed our $1 million commitment with the same organizations.

Championing Our Communities

We support our communities and the organizations that help them thrive. We engage and strengthen these communities through partnerships, hands-on service and corporate social responsibility. Along with many local partnerships, Cox is proud to have strong relationships with numerous national diversity groups that align with our values.

Supporting Our Suppliers

We invite and encourage qualified minority-, women-, veteran-, disability- and LGBTQ+-owned business partners in our companywide purchasing process. We form mutually beneficial alliances with suppliers who offer high-quality and competitively priced products and services. Cox companies spend about $800 million annually with diverse suppliers, and we’ve set a goal to increase that amount to $1 billion by the end of 2025.

Partner Spotlights

We believe uplifting diverse students is a critical component of our mission to solve the world’s greatest problems, and drives the innovation and leadership needed to build a better future for the next generation. We’re honored to partner with APIA Scholars, an organization that provides scholarships to Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, making the dream of attending college a reality. Since 2017, Cox has been proud to help APIA fulfill its mission of providing resources to students, increasing their access to higher education and providing a foundation for their future success and contributions to a more vibrant country. Our partnership has supported over 35 students as they strive to become community leaders and achieve their goals of making a difference across the world.

We understand the diversity of our people and our businesses make Cox stronger and smarter. For 13 years, we’ve supported the Human Rights Campaign and its mission to realize a world where members of the LGBTQ+ family are ensured equality at home, work and in every community.
