Supporting Healthier Communities
08/16/2018
Giving back to the communities we serve was important to our founder, Governor James M. Cox, and it’s still an important part of who we are as a company.
The James M. Cox Foundation recently announced two significant hospital grants to Grady Health Foundation in Atlanta and Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC Children’s) in California.
The foundation granted $200,000 to CHOC Children’s, which will support piloting the region’s first pediatric psychiatric consultation access line. “There are more than 150,000 children in Orange County suffering from mental health conditions,” said CHOC’s Chief Psychologist Heather Huszti, Ph.D “Without early identification and treatment, these children are unlikely to escape long-term impacts on their health and well-being. Our pediatric access line will help improve the speed of access to behavioral health treatment, including psychiatric consultations and referrals.”
The foundation also announced a $1.35 million grant to support the launch of Grady Hospital’s Food as Medicine Partnership, a program designed to bridge the critical gap between health and nutrition by ensuring patients and families of Grady Health System have access to healthy, affordable foods.
“A healthy lifestyle starts with diet, but it’s often difficult to get access to healthy, affordable foods,” said Cox Enterprises Chairman Jim Kennedy. “I’m excited that Grady and its partners are taking the lead in providing quality food to patients and families through the Food as Medicine partnership. This is an innovative approach to healthcare and we’re happy to support it.”
The James M. Cox Foundation provides funding in areas of health, conservation and environment, early childhood education and empowering families and individuals for success in the communities in which our company operates.
