Morehouse Student Wins $10K Cox Scholarship
01/10/2019
Morehouse College freshman Malik Thornton is the 2018 recipient of the Federal Communications Bar Association (FCBA) Foundation’s Cox Enterprises scholarship.
Malik, a Washington D.C. student, is studying cybersecurity in his first year at Morehouse College. He and other scholarship recipients were selected based on academic achievements and service to school and community. Cox Enterprises donates annually to the FCBA Foundation, which is the nonprofit arm of the Federal Communications Bar Association, as part of our mission to help build a better future.
Thornton is an honor roll student, a graduate of McKinley Technology High School in Washington, D.C. and a former intern at the National Museum of African American History and Culture. He was awarded $10,000 to support his higher education, and said he intends to serve as a role model, showing other students of color how much of a resource education can be when capitalized upon.
The FCBA Foundation
The FCBA Foundation is a nonprofit that supports communications services and educational projects. Each year, the foundation awards scholarships to public high school students from Washington D.C. who have an interest in communications-related fields of education, including science, engineering, technology, law, economics, math and journalism. One of the scholarships is named for Cox Enterprises. Barry Ohlson, vice president of regulatory affairs for Cox Enterprises, is the former chairman of the Foundation and its current assistant treasurer.
