Pride in Our Diversity

10/10/2018

Pride.jpgCox believes building a diverse and inclusive workplace is vital to our business — and is the right thing to do. That’s why we have numerous initiatives and partnerships designed to strengthen and support of LGBTQ+ communities at work and in the places we live. Here’s a look at some of our efforts.

Human Rights Campaign

The Human Rights Campaign is America’s largest civil rights and political lobbying organization working to achieve LGBTQ+ equality. For the last two years, the organization gave Cox Enterprises a 90 (out of a possible 100) on its Corporate Equality Index, which evaluates workplace policies toward LGBTQ employees.

In addition to being a Silver Level national sponsor of the HRC, Cox serves as a presenting sponsor of the HRC Atlanta Gala Dinner and Auction. Each Cox division contributes to the sponsorship through representation at the event, as well as cash and in-kind contributions, such as public service announcements and complimentary ads.

“Cox has a goal to build a better future for the next generation,” said Andrea Lawson, vice president, Talent Management and Diversity.  “We believe our partnership with the HRC contributes to this by supporting equality for LGBTQ people — both within our company and in our local communities.”

LGBTQ Institute

The LGBTQ Institute is housed at the National Center for Civil and Human Rights in Atlanta, and is an integral part of the center’s global civil and human rights platform. It helps promote policies that treat LGBT people equally and fairly, in the South and around the world. Cox is a Gold sponsor of the LGBT Institute’s annual Diversity in Business Forum.

Showing Our Pride

National Pride Month in June is a time for hundreds of our employees to celebrate by PREDIT161009CoxPrideParadeLRM-7.jpgvolunteering at and attending local parades, marches and other Pride events. This is supported by the regional diversity councils and ERGs throughout the divisions. Cox is also an annual sponsor of the Atlanta Pride Festival, which takes place in October, with more than 150 volunteers marching in the parade and several booths in the festival.

Throughout the year, Cox boasts active Pride employee resource groups (ERGs) that play a critical role in bringing together a community of employees to promote the inclusion of our LGBTQ+ team members.
